Sky high summer for Group First balloon

The Group First hot air balloon is preparing for a busy summer season with an action packed calendar of events.

Within the next few weeks, the balloon will take part in the Lord Mayor’s Regatta across the City of London among 49 other balloons set to take to the capital’s skies to raise money and awareness for Scope and Mencap charities.

Following this huge event, the team will begin a series of regular Group First staff flights next month.

Pilot and Group First Finance Director Richard Gahan will take members of staff on early morning flights around the area close to head office at Shuttleworth Mead in Padiham, Lancashire to experience the famous balloon in action for themselves.

Looking ahead to the August bank holiday weekend, 28 to 30 August, the balloon team will be heading up to Scotland’s only meet, Strathaven Balloon Festival in John Hastie Park in the South Lanarkshire town.

Here, they will be flying and tethering the Group First balloon for huge crowds expected to gather thanks to free entry and plenty of family fun in store. Around 15 balloons are expected to appear at the event.

The following weekend, 4 to 6 September, Richard and the team will appear at Chatsworth Country Fair in Derbyshire. This annual family event will see the balloon take flight in the morning and afternoon.

This year’s Chatsworth Fair is set to be bigger and better than ever, with guest appearances from The Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry and Masterchef’s John Torode in the AGA Rangemaster Cookery Theatre.
