Last month was the airport’s busiest March in seven years – over 606,000 people travelled through it which is a 14% increase on the same month last year.

International traffic increased by 22.3%, while domestic travel grew by 8.2%.

And airport car parking specialists Park First said the news is proof that the airport is set for its busiest ever year, backing reports there may be a total of 8 million passengers passing through its doors by the end of 2015.

A spokesperson said: “We’ve had an incredible start to the year and it seems like the fantastic numbers we’ve seen so early on have set the precedent for another boom year for Glasgow Airport.

“Demand has been so huge that we are in the process of developing our fifth and sixth car parks close to the airport with Car Park 5, Park & Fly, just released on sale to investors.”

Glasgow Airport has this year expanded its international network with direct flights to Florida, Las Vegas, Munich, Prague, Novia Scotia and Halifax to be added over the next few months. The airport will see £17m of investment over the course of 2015.

Park First’s Glasgow Airport parking portfolio includes Park Safe, Direct Parking, Park Fast and Park & Fly.
