Balloon team go long distance but miss out on the trophy

Two of the balloon team pilots took part in the recent North West Balloon and Airship Club (NWBAC) “Midsummer Madness” meet. The challenge is for balloons to take off at sunrise from the meet launch field , fly the furthest and return to launch field before 8.30am for breakfast.

Four balloons took off just after 5am heading north. The team had hatched a plan to fly the furthest with a chance to win the trophy.

The team flew over Leyland and Preston landing at the side of the A6 in Broughton. The team had flown for ¬†over 2hours 30minutes and flying more than double the distance of any of the other balloons. A slight delay finding the land owner to be able to retrieve the balloon meant the team didn’t get back by the 8.30am deadline and missed out of the trophy but not the breakfast!
