Egg-Stra Surprise Judge for School Easter Competition

Accrington school children’s Easter competition had an “egg-stra” special surprise judge when Stanley footballer Marcus Carver popped in to present prizes to the winners.

Marcus visited Peel Park Primary School to hand out Easter eggs to the winners of the school’s annual egg decoration competition and complimented children on their weird and wonderful artistic creations.

Teacher Miss Blackshaw, who organised the competition, said: “The children were over the moon when they found out they’d receive their prizes from a professional footballer – they were ecstatic when Marcus walked in. They’re all football-mad so I’m sure lots of them will be excited to go to the game this weekend.”

Earlier this week, Marcus visited All Saints Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors to take over teaching duties for the afternoon’s sports lesson.

Year 3 pupils enjoyed an outdoor football session led by Marcus testing their ball control, coordination and teamwork.

All Saints teacher Mr Preston said: “The children had great fun – a huge thank you to Accrington Stanley for organising the visit and to Marcus for visiting us on his day off!”

The school visits were part of ASFC’s ongoing campaign to encourage Hyndburn’s youngsters to get behind their local team.  At both schools, every pupil received a free ticket to Accrington Stanley’s all-important home match this Saturday at the Store First Stadium, as well as discounted £5 entry vouchers for accompanying adults.
